Back to School 2018-2019

Dear Cavaliers,
I hope you have enjoyed your summer break. Our custodians have been working hard to prepare the building for your arrival. Your teachers have been involved in trainings this summer to learn new ways to support you in your academic endeavors. We are excited for you to meet our new staff members who will be joining us this fall.  Joining us will be Kristopher Chrisopulos as Assistant Principal, Tierney Uhlenkott teaching Math, Michelle Lara-Moore teaching Math and ELL, Peter Brickey teaching Behavior, Susan Nielsen teaching Cavalier Pride, Brian Jensen teaching ELA and Drama, and Jessica Hooper as a Counselor.
6th Grade Orientation: On August 28th, 6th grade students will take part in our WEB program, (Where Everyone Belongs). Our program runs from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Students should be dropped off no later than 9:45 as we will begin right at 10:00. Students should come to the main gym. Sixth grade students will participate in a number of activities, get to know the building, learn their locker combinations, meet the staff and build relationships with each other and our WEB leaders. This is an important opportunity for our sixth graders and we encourage them to attend. This WEB orientation is for students only.
Schedules: Sixth graders will receive their schedule at the WEB orientation. Seventh and Eighth graders are encouraged to print theirs from home through the Parent Portal or pick it up after 2:00 p.m. on the 28th.
Open House: Cascade open house is August 28th beginning at 5:00 p.m. and ending at 7:00 p.m.  At that time, students can find their lockers, meet their teachers and find their classes.
Interactive Notebooks: This year we will be working with students on organization and study skills. Our biggest initiative is teaching them to use Interactive Notebooks. A number of our classes began using them last year so many of our students already have an understanding. Interactive notebooks not only keep student work organized but also help them learn to interact with the content to increase retention and understanding. If you are interested in finding out more about interactive notebooks, there are many videos on YouTube that show how to put one together and how it is used.  Here is a link to one such video.
School Hours: The office is open 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. School starts at 7:50 a.m. and ends at 2:20 p.m. except for Wednesdays when we release 1 hour early at 1:20 p.m. On the first day of school release time is 2:20 p.m. The Café opens at 7:10 a.m. for breakfast beginning the first day of school.
Meals: Breakfast cost is $ 1.15 (no charge for free or reduced), lunch cost is $2.65 (reduced price is 40 cents) and milk cost is $0.50. Free or reduced lunch applications are available at the school and online. If you have been on free or reduced in the past, it will continue for the first few days of school while you update the forms. These forms are processed at the district and one form can be used per household regardless of the school your child attends.
Transportation:  Please refer to the district website for bus routes and times or call the bus garage at 575-7867.
7TH & 8TH Grade Sports: The office is collecting sports paperwork as well as fees. Paperwork can be found on the Cascade website or picked up from the main office. All sports paperwork must be completed and returned before students can participate in their first practice. The football fee is $40 (or half price for families on free or reduced lunch). The fee for volleyball, wrestling, basketball, and track is $30 (also half price if eligible). Students will have one week from the date of team selections to pay the fee. If the fee isn’t paid by that time, he or she will be unable to continue participating. All athletes must have medical insurance. If you are not insured, you may purchase a low-priced student insurance policy.
Looking forward to seeing you soon,
Chris Rugg, Principal
